DAPPER FM RIDES AGAIN: Live launch with Bleeding Noses and the Mahouts: Friday 27th April

Bleeding Noses live at Blue Lagoon

Dapper FM will be riding the airwaves once again this weekend.

We kick off with a rather special event on Friday 27th April. We will be on air from 6pm (UK Time) with a variety of presenters dropping in to push buttons, talk nonsense and generally try to remember how everything works.

However, through the night we will also be broadcasting not one, but two live bands, who will be entertaining the masses next door in Jacs Live Music Venue. We have The Bleeding Noses and The Mahouts

Bleedin’ Noses are a six piece ensemble from Blackwood, South Wales. They combine acoustic & electric guitars, banjos, & mandolins, drums, bass & double bass, keyboards & accordion to create their unique sound. They have come to describe themselves as “Country Punks”, drawing Influence from Folk, Country, Punk Rock and The Blues.

The Mahouts are an Aberdare based posse that play their own brand of acoustic folk that refuses to be pigeonholed.

Will we remember how to use all the kit? Will all the kit work? Will the bands be any good? These questions, and many more, will be answered live on air on Friday. If you can’t be bothered to get off your arse and come to the gig, tune in to Dapper FM and see if it is a glorious success or an embarrassing disaster. Whichever way it goes, we can assure you it will be a grin.

When will Dapper be back on air?

Planing the new studio

All the studio gear has been moved out of the Cana Centre and is now safely stored in a big pile in our new home, Jacs Live Music Venue. We just need to rebuild it all.

The new studio is very close to copmpletion and we have a guy that knows abit more about the technical stuff than we do coming to plumb all the gear in on 17th April (ish) so we hope to be back on air very shortly after that,

Dapper on the run

Dapper FM is on the move. After ten years in the Cana Centre Penywaun, we are now moving to a purpose built studio in the grounds of Jacs Live Music Venue, in the heart of Aberdare.

The last broadcast from the Cana will be the Something Else for the Weekend Show, from 9am till noon o’clock on 24th March 2018.

We aim to be up and running again by Easter, but that will depend on all the bits fitting together after being dismantled, dragged down to Aberdare and being reassembled in our new home.

To avoid having to do any of the dirty work, our web dude has decided to scuttle off to the other side of the planet and go off grid for a fortnight. So there is not much point looking here for updates till he gets back.

However, if you check out our facebook page, hopefully one of our customer relations officers will put some updates on there.

We would like to thank all who have listened to us over the last decade and we hope we can provide a new and improved service. We are a little bit excited!

In the mean time – you can listen live HERE

Dapper FM thanks the people of Penywaun

As you may be aware, the Cana Centre in Penywaun, home to Dapper FM for the last ten years, is closing at the end of March. This inevitably means that Dapper FM will have to cease broadcasting from the centre.

After much sole searching the management committee of Dapper FM felt that the only option open to us, if we want to continue broadcasting, was to move out of Penywaun.

You may have heard by now that Jacs Live Music Venue in Aberdare has offered us a new home and are currently in the process of building a new studio for us. The facilities they are offering us were just too good to turn down.

We are acutely aware that without the support of the community of Penywaun, and the management and staff of the Cana Centre in particular, there would be no Dapper FM. Whilst we are physically leaving the community, we will forever be indebted to the people of Penywaun who have been our hosts for the last decade.

The final live broadcast from the Cana will be the ‘Something for the weekend show’, which will go out live Saturday 24th March between 9am and 12 noon. If anyone from the community would like to pop around and be part of the show they would be more than welcome.

We aim to be broadcasting again from Jacs by the Easter weekend, construction works and technical gremlins permitting.

Whilst we are moving out of Penywaun, we are not moving far, so if anyone from the community would like to be involved in this new venture, they are, as they always have been, welcome to join us.

You can take Dapper FM out of Penywaun, but you will never take the Penywaun out of Dapper FM.

Yours, with thanks,

Dapper FM Management Committee.
